Terms of Service
1. Acceptance of terms
By downloading, installing, or using Sotto, you agree to these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, do not use the application.
2. Description of service
Sotto is a desktop email client for macOS, Windows, and Linux that connects to your email accounts via provider APIs (currently Gmail, with Microsoft 365 and Outlook support coming soon). It provides email reading, composing, organisation, AI-powered classification, and search functionality. Sotto stores email data locally on your computer.
3. Account and access
To use Sotto, you must have a Google account with Gmail. You are responsible for maintaining the security of your Google account credentials. Sotto accesses your Gmail data through Google's OAuth 2.0 authorisation flow and only requests read-only access.
4. Licence
Sotto grants you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to use the application for personal or business email management purposes. You may not:
- Reverse-engineer, decompile, or disassemble the application
- Redistribute, sublicence, or resell the application
- Use the application for any unlawful purpose
- Attempt to circumvent any security measures or access controls
5. Acceptable use and resource abuse
Sotto is provided for reasonable personal and business email management. Any usage that exploits Sotto's keys, API access, infrastructure, or resources in a manner not intended for the purpose of reasonable personal or business use constitutes a breach of these terms. Examples include, but are not limited to:
- Generating excessive email volume (e.g., sending or processing thousands of emails per week beyond normal usage patterns)
- Exploiting AI classification, search, or draft features for purposes other than managing your own email (e.g., using AI features for content generation, data extraction, research, or any purpose unrelated to your inbox)
- Programmatic or automated harvesting of sender logos, company data, or any other resources accessed through Sotto
- Using Sotto's API credentials, OAuth tokens, or service integrations to access third-party services outside of Sotto's intended functionality
- Deliberately generating excessive API requests to third-party services (including Google, Anthropic, or logo.dev) through Sotto
- Reselling, redistributing, or providing access to Sotto's features or resources to third parties
Breach of this section may result in immediate termination of your licence, and we reserve the right to seek damages, including but not limited to the cost of API usage, infrastructure costs, and any losses incurred as a result of the abuse.
6. Third-party services
Sotto relies on third-party services including Google Gmail API, Anthropic Claude API, and logo.dev. Your use of Sotto is also subject to the terms and policies of these services. Sotto is not responsible for the availability, accuracy, or conduct of third-party services.
7. Email operations and user responsibility
Sotto requires broad access to your email account in order to function as a full email client, including the ability to read, send, modify, organise, and delete emails on your behalf. By using Sotto, you accept full responsibility for all actions performed through the application on your email account(s).
You acknowledge and accept the following risks:
- Unintended emails. Sotto or its AI features may send, reply to, or forward emails incorrectly, to the wrong recipients, with incorrect content, or at inappropriate times. Emails sent through Sotto are sent from your account and are your sole responsibility.
- Data loss. Sotto may delete, archive, move, or permanently modify emails in your account. Such actions may not be reversible. Sotto is not responsible for any loss of emails, attachments, or other data.
- Misclassification. AI-powered classification and automation may produce incorrect results, including routing important emails to the wrong category, failing to surface critical messages, or applying incorrect labels.
- Account consequences. Actions performed by Sotto on your behalf — including sending volume, content, or patterns — may trigger responses from your email provider, including but not limited to rate limiting, suspension, or termination of your email account. Sotto is not responsible for any consequences imposed by your email provider.
- Third-party claims. Emails sent or actions taken through Sotto may give rise to third-party claims, including but not limited to claims related to intellectual property, copyright, defamation, privacy, spam, or unsolicited communications. You are solely responsible for all content sent from your account, whether composed by you or generated by AI features.
- Automation risks. Automated workflows (such as auto-replies, email forwarding, or integrations with external services) execute without manual review once configured. Misconfigured or malfunctioning automations may perform unintended actions at scale. You are responsible for configuring, monitoring, and disabling automations.
- Security incidents. While Sotto takes reasonable measures to protect your data, no software is immune to security vulnerabilities. In the event of a security breach, your email content, credentials, or personal data may be exposed. Sotto is not liable for damages resulting from security incidents, including but not limited to unauthorised access, data exposure, or identity theft.
You should review all AI-generated content (including draft replies, suggested responses, and automated actions) before sending or confirming. You should maintain independent backups of any critical email data.
8. AI-powered features
Sotto uses artificial intelligence (provided by third-party services) for email classification, search, draft composition, suggested replies, and automation. You acknowledge that:
- AI-generated content is provided for convenience and may not always be accurate, appropriate, or complete.
- AI may generate content that is factually incorrect, misleading, offensive, or contextually inappropriate.
- AI may misinterpret the intent or tone of emails, leading to inappropriate suggested replies or actions.
- You should not rely solely on AI outputs for critical, legal, financial, medical, or time-sensitive decisions.
- Sotto is not responsible for any actions taken based on AI-generated content, or for any consequences arising from AI errors, including but not limited to incorrect classifications, inappropriate replies, inaccurate search answers, or erroneous automation actions.
9. Data and privacy
Your use of Sotto is also governed by our Privacy Policy, which describes how your data is accessed, used, and stored. By using Sotto, you consent to the data practices described in the Privacy Policy.
10. Assumption of risk
You expressly acknowledge and assume all risks associated with using Sotto. Sotto interacts with your live email account(s) and performs real, potentially irreversible actions. You understand that software errors, AI failures, network issues, security vulnerabilities, or unforeseen interactions with email provider systems may result in unintended consequences, including but not limited to loss of data, exposure of private information, sending of unintended communications, account suspension, or third-party claims. By continuing to use Sotto, you voluntarily accept these risks.
11. Disclaimer of warranties
Sotto is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including but not limited to implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, and accuracy. We do not warrant that:
- The application will be uninterrupted, timely, secure, or error-free.
- AI-generated content will be accurate, appropriate, or free of harmful material.
- Email operations will execute correctly or without unintended side effects.
- Your data will be secure from unauthorised access or breaches.
- The application will be compatible with your email provider's terms of service or policies.
12. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Sotto, its developers, officers, employees, agents, and affiliates shall not be liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages whatsoever, including but not limited to:
- Loss, deletion, corruption, or exposure of emails, attachments, or other data
- Emails sent, forwarded, or replied to in error (whether by user action, AI, or automation)
- Suspension, termination, or restriction of your email account by your provider
- Third-party claims arising from emails sent or actions taken through Sotto, including intellectual property, copyright, defamation, privacy, or spam-related claims
- Security breaches, unauthorised access, or data exposure
- Loss of profits, revenue, business opportunities, or goodwill
- Business interruption or inability to access email
- Any damages arising from AI-generated content or automated actions
This limitation applies regardless of the theory of liability (contract, tort, negligence, strict liability, or otherwise), even if Sotto has been advised of the possibility of such damages. In jurisdictions that do not allow the exclusion or limitation of certain damages, Sotto's liability shall be limited to the maximum extent permitted by law.
13. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless Sotto, its developers, officers, employees, and affiliates from and against any and all claims, liabilities, damages, losses, costs, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of or related to your use of the application, including but not limited to: emails sent through Sotto, actions performed on your email account, content generated by AI features, configured automations, or your violation of these terms or any applicable law.
14. Termination
You may stop using Sotto at any time by uninstalling the application and revoking Gmail access through your Google Account settings. We reserve the right to terminate or suspend access to Sotto at any time, with or without notice, for conduct that we believe violates these terms or is harmful to other users or third parties.
15. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time. The revised version will be posted on this page with a new effective date. Continued use of Sotto after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.
